Ascot Park Golf Club Handicap System
as prepared by Club Captain Dec 2022
- Basically 93% of the average of your best 8 scores in your last 20 rounds becomes your handicap.
- It is rounded up or down to the nearest whole number to produce your Daily Handicap.
- After each recorded round of golf there is a new 'last 20 rounds' as the new round is added on and what was the 20th round slips out of the twenty into 21st position.
- Whether your Handicap changes depends on whether there is enough change (or any) in the average of your new best 8 rounds (times 93%) to alter your Daily Handicap.
- One shocking round does not necessarily mean that your best 8 changes. Equally, one very good round might not have much effect if another excellent round slips out of your 'last 20' at the same time.
- Our handicapping formula is based on the one used by Golf Australia.
- If you are wondering about the 93% calculation, apparently it is making an allowance for the potential we all have to play better than our Handicap.
- Each week everyone’s score is entered into an Excel program that does the calculations and acts as a data base to maintain a record of each person's scores.

▪ Use a shorter shot routine for all hits and putts. Be decisive, plan fast, make fewer practice swings. Don’t freeze. Hit.
▪ Ignore the honour. Whoever can hit safely does so.
▪ Move quickly to your own ball. Select a club and plan your shot while others play theirs.
▪ Play your shot promptly and always watch where it finishes.
▪ Park your cart on the exit side of the green, NOT in front.
▪ Plan putts ahead of time and putt out whenever possible.
▪ Send first two finished to next tee to hit BEFORE marking their cards.
▪ Leave the green AND surrounds quickly. Mark your card at next tee.
▪ Help and remind your partners to play quickly.

Ascot Park Special Golf Rules
Rule Clarifications
Accidentally hitting your ball whilst having a practice swing
The ruling for accidentally hitting your golf ball depends on which part of the golf course you are playing, so the rule applies as is set out in the 3 key areas below:
FROM THE TEE – if you accidentally strike your ball whilst having a practice swing on the tee, you must replace your ball without any penalty.
This rule doesn’t cover the golfer who intentionally sets up to hit a tee shot and miss hits the shot dribbling the ball of the tee or shooting the ball sideways off the heel or toe of the golf club.
THROUGH THE GREEN (fairway, rough, hazard, bunker) – if you accidentally strike your ball whilst having a practice swing in one of these areas, you are deemed to have moved your ball and must replace the ball and incur a 1 stroke penalty. If you fail to replace your ball it’s a 2 stroke penalty.
ON THE PUTTING GREEN SURFACE – if you accidentally strike your ball whilst having a practice stroke, you must replace your ball to the position it was resting before contact. There is no penalty for this incident.
Rule 1. Ball lost or Out of Bounds
Option A
Apply official rule 29. In essence, you are required to return to the spot as near as possible from which the original ball was played adding a penalty stroke to his/her score for the hole. OR
Option B
Elect to apply the special Ascot Park Golf Club Rule. Drop ball anywhere along line between point of entry and from where stroke was played. PENALTY: TWO (2) STROKES to be added to player's score.
Rule 2. Bunker Relief in a Stroke Event
Where Stroke play is the competition of the day, upon landing in a greenside bunker a player may play no more than a total of 3 shots to exit from the bunker(s). If exit is not achieved after 3 tries, the player may retrieve the ball and place the ball on the putting green nearest to where the ball lay in the bunker, putting out as normal and adding 4 (3 plus 1 for the placement on the green) shots to his/her score for the hole.
IMPORTANT: This local Rule 2 will not apply in club championships.
Rule 3. Unplayable Lie
Where a ball is Unplayable a player has the Official Rule 27 options:
1. Replay by dropping as near as possible to where original ball was played, or from tee if applicable. Penalty: stroke & distance
2. Drop the ball within two club lengths from ball but not nearer the hole. One stroke penalty
3. Play from anywhere along the line behind the ball in line with the hole. One stroke penalty
In the interests of keeping the game moving, the player may adopt the following Ascot Park Rule as
follows:
4.:The player may drop the ball on the line between point of entry and from where the stroke was played, ensuring that the ball is dropped no nearer the hole. Two strokes penalty.
