Aims of Club
The Club's primary aim is to provide an environment that facilitates a range of regular golf competitions and social events for our members (male and female) in a friendly, non threatening and enjoyable atmosphere.
Brief History
The Ascot Park Golf Club was formed from the Ascot Park Tennis Club. During the winter months of 1958, Laurie Kappler and Bill McAllister played a few rounds at Belair National Park. Others from the tennis club gradually joined them, and by 1959 they were playing as a social golf club. In a short time the club started to adopt a formal structure modelled on similar principles to other conventional golf clubs. They had a Constitution, and conducted a formal meeting after the game on each monthly picnic day. An Annual General Meeting was conducted and committee members were elected.
Since 1959, the club has prevailed and progressed from strength to strength. Membership in 1962 was around 30. The club currently has approximately 65 Playing Members, most of whom are active golfers plus about 20 Social Members. Club records reveal that, although formed from a group of friends as a social club, strict control of finances and the conduct of formal meetings and club affairs has always been the policy. This, no doubt, has contributed to the longevity and success of the club. The Club was incorporated in April 2022.

Regular Wednesday Competitions
The regular competition of the club is played at The West Beach Parks Golf Courses. (formerly Adelaide Shores and locally known as The Pat).
Members may choose to play on either the 15 Hole Executive 50 Course (known as the North Course) or the Patawalonga Course (known as the South Course). The shorter North Course offers less distance (2,600 metres) but challenging greens and is ideal alternative to the longer 18 Hole Par 72 South Course which offers 5,900 Metres of play.
Assembly times: Subject to change by the Pro Shop.
Hit off times vary between summer and winter seasons and are dictated by the Course Pro-shop.
Ordinarily, South Course players need to register by around 8:15 am. Playing groups are then drawn. First group tees off at approximately 09:12hrs in the winter and 08:45hrs in Summer. North Course players generally assemble around 07:45 hrs for a 08:00hrs hit. Check with the Captain or Vice Captains to confirm the require assembly times for each Course.
Cost: Members contribute $2 to play in the competition each week. In addition, all are encouraged to enter the "Lucky Numbers" game by buying one or more numbers for $1 each. Winners are drawn after golf. This is an important fundraiser for our
club.
Birdie Competition: Each week players have the option of participating in the Birdie Competition costing $1.00 - (see Rules section for details)
Green Fees: Are payable to the Pro Shop which offers a discount to Pensioners. A few members have chosen to join Westward Ho Golf Club through which they are able to purchase Playing Rights for the year.
Handicap: For each Course, men playing off the "White Tees" & Ladies off the Red, the club maintains an Ascot Park Golf Club Handicap for our members. Some members have a handicap on both courses. The handicap is based on the Golf Australia system using the average of the best 8 scores over the past 20 rounds multiplied by 0.93.
Formats of play: Regular events are either Stableford, PAR or Stroke. When Stroke is played, the number of putts are recorded. This information is needed to determine various trophy winners at the end of our season. On occasions, a team event such as Ambrose is played. The club handicap is applied in all events.
After completing their Round, Members are encouraged to gather in the Westward Ho Clubrooms, access to the rooms is funded by APGC to allow members socialise in a comfortable venue. After all players have submitted their score cards for the day, the winners are presented with prizes. It is also an opportunity to pass on club news and announcements to those in attendance and to draw the Lucky Numbers for the week
Hot Weather - If the weather forecast for the City of Adelaide is for a maximum temperature of 38 degrees or more, formal APGC competition will be cancelled. However, members may still play socially if they wish.
